North Bay Village
Vella Real Estate is based out of North Bay Village which is made up of a man made island – North Bay, Harbor and Treasure Island. The unique city was officially incorporated in 1945. Well, to be clear much of North Bay Village was actually beneath the waters of Biscayne Bay until 1940 when they began dredging and bulk-heading and started out as merely a 5 acre island called Broadcast Key which hosted the radio station WIOD.
There were initially 12 homes built and occupied in North Bay Village in 1941, but today the island has grown to 376 single family homes and beautifully palm-lined streets. The island grew in popularity and shortly after it was annexed the City became widely known for its popular restaurants and nightclubs which attracted celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. Dean Martin had a night-club in North Bay Village in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s called Dino’s which was situated next to Jilly Rizzo’s club, coined Jilly’s.
Although the North Village is no longer known to house historical performances it is once again gaining popularity. Now in addition to the 376 single family homes there are luxury high rises that boast some of the best water views in South Florida which offer high end amenities and dock space which is a huge upside for residents. The small city has been making waves with new restaurants and attractions and although it’s popularity seems to be a thing of the past — like 50 years ago — there is an effort under way to make North Bay Village a destination again.
