BECKHAM LOOKS TO CALL MIAMI HIS NEW HOME, AND I’M WELCOMING HIM AND THE SPORT’S 3.4 BILLION VIEWERS WITH OPEN ARMS.
Miami is at the cusp of playing host to not just one huge international sport, but two! Fùtbol trumps pretty much any other sport when it comes to global viewership. The sport garners a staggering international reach of over 3.4 BILLION VIEWERS. That’s right, nearly half of the entire world tunes in to watch the sport every year. The amount of additional attention and exposure the city will receive will be monumental. Beckham and the team’s ownership group are planning to build a privately-funded stadium complex dubbed the Miami Freedom Park to serve as the home for the new Major League Soccer franchise. The complex is said to include a 25,000 seat stadium, restaurant and retail space, an office park, hotels, soccer fields, a public park and a golf entertainment facility.
THE ADDITION OF A FORMULA 1 CIRCUIT CARD AND A MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER TEAM WOULD PROPEL THE CITY, ITS RESIDENTS, AND BUSINESS OWNERS TO ALL-TIME HIGHS.
Yes, many are opposed, and some with legitimate reason… I am of the opinion however that the pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to the stadium and the team. Granted this will be one of three large arenas within a 10 mile radius of each other which includes Marlins Park and the American Airlines arena therefore traffic isn’t expected to get any better. The stadium brings with it an influx of tourist cash, thousands of new jobs, and increased tax revenue. November 2018 marked a new victory with the Miami Freedom Park receiving a majority vote to move forward. Slightly controversial as it may be, I’m for the team, and the park.
